About Us

Bespoke Picture Framing in Leicestershire

Behind this website we are actually real people!

Based in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, On the Edge is an independent picture framing business run by Julie (Jules) and Rob Chapman. Since our inception in 2004 our roots have been firmly based in bespoke picture framing. Later we added giclée art printing and reproduction to our services.

We are members of the Fine Art Trade Guild, a worldwide body setting standards for art and framing. Julie holds the Guild’s qualification of Guild Commended Framer (GCF).

All our framing work is done ‘in-house’ on a truly bespoke basis. We don’t contract out or buy-in any ready-made frames.

We’re known for the picture framing work we carryout work on behalf of private customers, amateur and professional artists. However, what many people don’t realise is that we also do extensive work for commercial organisations, design agencies, cooperatives and retail businesses – both locally and nationally.

Whoever the customer, we take great pride in the attention to detail we give to each job. And you’ll be pleased to hear that we place very great emphasis on completing the work on time! We know that’s important to our customers.

We hope we have managed to balance the benefits and levels of personal service that only an independent business
can provide, whilst still being able to supply the products and utilise the technologies that larger businesses rely on.

We’re more than happy to spend time with our customers to make sure they’re happy with their choices. We also
recognise that for some (especially amateur artists), the thought of presenting something personal to be framed can
be intimidating… we promise you, it’s not. Come and in see!

The business was started in 2004 offering a framing service to artists, individuals and businesses throughout the
Leicestershire and Northamptonshire area (and occasionally further afield).

Following demand from our regular artists, in 2008 we expanded the business to offer reproduction and printing of art using the very latest scanning and wide format print technology.

In 2008 we were accepted as a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild a worldwide body setting standards for art and
framing. Later in 2008 Julie attained the Guild’s qualification as Guild Commended Framer (GCF).

As business grew, 2010 saw us move into our current workshops in Market Harborough giving us more space to for the vast array of equipment we require and provide an easy location for our customers to visit.

In 2011 we were joined by Jessica Phipps-Wardle who had recently graduated from De Montfort University with a BA (Hons) in Design Crafts. In 2016 we were sorry to lose Jess, but delighted to see her move on to progress her career undertaking a Master’s Degree in Art Conservation.

2014 saw us expand our workshop space from a single unit by knocking through into the neighbouring unit giving us far more room to prepare the work and carry more stock (boy we needed it!)

Andrea Greenaway joined us in mid 2015 and brought with her a vast experience of art and crafts, as well as her well trained eye for colour and style (plus her fanaticism for recycling!).  2015 also saw Sarah Keeping join us.  Sarah is an experienced professional photographer in her own right and has great knowledge of high quality printing as well as ‘an eye’ for colour and tones – all skills vial to help our customers choose their frames.  And in case one photographer wasn’t enough, in 2016 we were joined by Sue Hunt.  As an experienced photographer Sue uses her skills in the digital side of our business, printing, scanning, colour balancing and everything else to do with image recreation.  We have skills a plenty here!
